From Chris and Melissa Baker…

We are so thankful that Chris and Melissa are ongoing supporters of DirectionFive’s work helping kids improve their health!

Melissa and I were astounded at what Patty and the D5 crew did with our donation of $500. We didn’t really expect that a modest donation could actually have such a sizable effect. Wow. It’s great seeing all the kids at work learning about what real nutrition and real food can do for them.

We would encourage anyone considering a donation of any level to step right up right now and give. Your money will go to exactly where it counts, the kids.

Best to you all,

Chris Baker

Today’s Class at Bayer Farm in Roseland

We had such a wonderful time at Bayer Farm in Roseland today teaching the kids to make a Brown Rice Salad with lots of many-colored veggies! They also made a Mustard Vinaigrette. It was a big hit with kids and parents! The nutrition lesson for today and for the next 2 classes is Type 2 Diabetes prevention.

Thanks to Chris and Melissa Baker to sponsoring this class. Would you consider sponsoring the next series of classes? A $500.00 donation will sponsor a series of 3 classes helping 12 kids AND their families with nutrition information while they’re learning how to cook!

Would you make your own Sport’s Drinks for your kids?

I have been asked to write another article for Mom’s Team based on a recent study by the University of Minnesota about kids and sports and parents perception of food available to the kids at sporting events. I will post the article when it comes out.

I wonder-would parents take the time to make their own sports drinks (electrolyte replacement drinks like Gatorade) so their kids don’t consume food color, sucralose and other less than healthy ingredients?

Let me know what you think please!

Look at these rooms!

Our second annual Gala is again at beautiful Soda Rock Winery! We are so thankful that they support DirectionFive and allow is to use their winery for our Gala.
This year they also are offering our Gala guests first chance at reserving one of their gorgeous new rooms so you can make it a weekend!

Mark West School and D5!

We are so pleased to announce that Mark West School in Santa Rosa is now offering our D5 programs after school beginning in September! They also have the beginnings of a school garden, so Fran Hansell, the energetic principal, wants D5 to be able to use the garden as part of our classes. Perfect!
